Procedures for you, shaped by you.
Below are our current procedures but please be aware that we will be developing it with your valued feedback. If you’d like to see things done differently then just say, we want your views to shape the procedures we put in place for you.
How To Come Climbing
Personal health
This may go without saying but please take a moment to really consider your own health before visiting. If you or anyone you have been in contact with have any of the COVID-19 symptoms identified here on the government website then ensure you have fully followed the appropriate guidelines for self-isolation.
We’re super excited to be providing climbing to the community and we want everyone to participate with the greatest confidence that they are in the safest possible environment.
Please don’t be offended if a member of the team asks you about your current or recent health. This is all part of our due diligence to keep us all safe.
You will need to have pre-paid online for your entry with a Membership or Punchcard
To reduce face-to-face interactions at reception and enable everyone to use the self-check-in desk, we ask that all climbers have a Membership (direct debit or single month) or a Punch Card (pre-paid bundles of individual entries. Now available in 5 or 10 bundles).
There is no need to pre-book your time-slot, instead, we will be publishing live info on any queue times if there are any and stats on when we are generally busy/quiet.
If you don’t already have one then you’ll be issued with a key-fob with a barcode to check yourself in. Then stay as long as you like!
One way system
When entering the centre, please do so via the disabled ramp, then exit down the steps. If you need to use the disabled ramp for your exit, please just speak with a member of the team and we will assist you.
As you may know, the reception desk and cafe serving area is kind of an island that you can walk all the way around, with toilets on the back of it. This is now one way in a clockwise direction. There will be plenty of signs to make it super clear and remember that this all works if everyone sticks to the flow. We’re sure you will! 🙂
There are no other one-way systems in the centre as other areas are wide enough for you to give each other wide berths. In some cases, we have clearly marked that you should walk on the left/right in certain walkways.
Changing & Showers
We have small changing rooms, so please try to arrive in the clothes you’d like to climb in. We are still hiring shoes out so do not worry if you don’t own your own pair. If you would like to use the changing rooms then please use either the changing room or showers whilst taking care to maintain social distancing.
The showers will be open as usual and cleaned regularly. If you can wait to shower at home then great, but we’re more than happy for you to freshen up with us too.
Hand washing and sanitisation
As soon as you’ve checked in you’ll need to walk in the one-way system past the toilets. Please ensure you pop into a toilet/shower-room and wash your hands thoroughly with the soap provided. There are 4 sinks in total. Then repeat this before and after visiting the cafe seating area or any breaks you have from climbing.
There are also hand sanitisation stations around the centre and we encourage you to use them every single time you pass them. This may seem like a lot of sanitising, but with the inevitable amount of shared touched climbing holds it will help to keep you and others safe.
In addition, please do your best to not touch your face which would potentially contaminate your hands or transfer germs/viruses to your face.

Taking breaks
Bouldering is a strength-based activity and we know this means we need to take breaks. If you’re taking a break from climbing then please head to the cafe seating area where possible instead of sitting on the mat for long periods of time. Of course, you’re welcome to sit on the mat as you usually would, to ponder your route whilst you’re working it.
If you would like hot food such as a stone-baked pizza, pasty or panini then you can order this in advance – it will take around 10min to prepare.
All cups and cutlery are washed at high temperatures and handled with the highest precautions before being served to you.
If you would like to enjoy the Boulder Shack cafe offerings after your climbing then we would encourage you to get a take out during evenings and weekends. If you are getting a takeaway coffee then see if you can remember your own cup so we can save using a disposable cup.
[Brief reminder of needing to have a membership or punchcard and info on opening times]
Please remember that our procedures are subject to change at short notice as we will be listening to and acting on your feedback and the guidance in the ever-changing situation.
If you have any feedback on what we’re doing or how you would like us to operate as a centre then lets us know, we’d love to hear from you.
