The science is clear: It is understood that we are facing an unprecedented global emergency. We are in a life or death situation of our own making. We must act now.
At Boulder Shack, we share the vision of Extinction Rebellion (XR) and are becoming part of this global movement. Most importantly, XR is engaging in Non-Violent Direct Action to achieve three demands to the government that will save our future.
This week, the UK became the first country to declare an Environmental & Climate Emergency, which is a step towards achieving the first demand. This is as a direct result of the peaceful civil disobedience and protests by people (like you) involved with Extinction Rebellion and a major step forward in tackling this nearly unavoidable climate disaster.
But it is not enough, not even nearly enough! We must keep the pressure on our government to not just say it’s an emergency but take immediate action. At Boulder Shack, we will be helping organise XR talks, training and protests and it would be great if you would like to join us in this movement.
When Greta Thunberg initiated a global school strike of over 1.5 million young people around the world, the world’s politicians, press and people watched with admiration. Now think about our impact if we could mobilise not only schools but all sectors of the economy!
On Friday 24th May we invite you to join the Boulder Shack team as we join the 2nd Global Climate Strike against Climate Change at Southampton city centre. (full details here). Please note that Boulder Shack will be closed this day until 4pm.
In preparation for this day of peaceful protest, we will be hosting a few events to get us psyched and ready:
- 15th of May, 7pm-8:30pm – Heading for Extinction Talk (and what to do about it)
- 18th of May, 10am-2:30pm –Non-Violent Direct Action Training: How to Protest in a peaceful way
- 23rd of May, 6pm-8pm – Art Craft evening: preparing placards, banners and posters for the Big Day
